Compliance guide

Are peptides legal in the UAE?

A short, plain-language guide for researchers and clinicians on how research peptides are treated under UAE law, and how Orion ships them compliantly.

The short answer

Research peptides are legal to purchase and possess in the United Arab Emirates when they are sold and used strictly for laboratory research - not as unapproved medicines. They are not controlled substances under the UAE's federal narcotics laws, but they are regulated as biological materials and as pharmaceutical raw materials by the Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) and the Emirates Drug Establishment (EDE).

The regulatory framework

Three bodies shape how peptides are imported, stored, and distributed in the UAE:

  • MoHAP, licenses pharmaceutical importers and reviews finished-drug registrations.
  • Emirates Drug Establishment - the federal authority overseeing pharmaceutical products and controlled substances (post the 2024 restructuring of drug oversight).
  • Dubai Health Authority (DHA) and other emirate-level regulators, govern clinical use in licensed facilities.

Research-only peptides fall outside finished-drug registration because they are supplied as lyophilised laboratory reagents, not as approved therapies. They must still be labelled, transported, and stored to pharmaceutical standards.

What "research use only" means

Every Orion peptide is sold for in vitro and preclinical research purposes. That designation is not a loophole, it is the legal basis on which the product is imported and sold. Products labelled research-only are not intended for human or veterinary therapeutic use, and any such use is the sole responsibility of the end user and their licensed practitioner.

Import, storage, and delivery

Orion holds inventory inside the UAE, so customers do not need to import peptides themselves. Stock is stored under temperature-controlled conditions and shipped in insulated packaging with cold-chain integrity maintained through last-mile delivery.

For institutional buyers requiring documentation for internal ethics or procurement review, we provide batch-specific certificates of analysis (COA), HPLC purity reports, and sterility documentation on request.

What is not permitted

  • Reselling research peptides as approved medicines.
  • Marketing peptides with therapeutic claims (weight-loss "treatments", anti-aging "cures", etc.) to consumers.
  • Importing narcotic or psychotropic substances scheduled under UAE federal law, none of Orion's peptides fall into these categories.

How Orion stays compliant

  • All products are labelled and sold strictly for research use.
  • Every batch is third-party tested to ≥99% purity by HPLC.
  • COAs are published per peptide and available on the product page.
  • Cold-chain shipping preserves peptide integrity through delivery.
  • We do not offer medical advice or dosing guidance, that remains between the researcher and their licensed practitioner.
